Intellectual Property and Innovation Lead


Position summary


We are looking for a driven and experienced patent attorney with a strong life sciences background to lead our intellectual property strategy and manage IP matters crucial for the success of Ukko.


In this role you will manage all intellectual property matters, including developing patent portfolios that align with Ukko’s business needs, capturing of innovation, external due diligence, patentability, freedom to operate, and other intellectual property-related matters. You will work closely with and provide strategic counsel to the R&D organization and senior leadership team.


This is full time role in our Rehovot office. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on a fast-paced growing mission driven startup.


Responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Identify and protect IP assets to support corporate strategy

  • Lead patent portfolio management

  • Work with research, development and clinical teams to identify and protect new inventions

  • Draft, file and support prosecution of patent applications in the U.S. and world-wide

  • Manage external relationships with outside counsel

  • Develop and implement patent life cycle management strategies

  • Conduct patentability, freedom to operate, infringement, and invalidity analyses

  • Assist with IP diligence for internal and external opportunities

  • Understand and deftly communicate IP risk assessments

  • Interface with inventors on a variety of IP and legal matters

  • Understand the competitive IP landscape and develop strategies to mitigate risks for Ukko

  • Collaborate on publication review processes

  • Support the R&D and management team on other IP and innovation related projects


Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as a patent attorney at a top law firm and/or pharma/biotechnology company

  • Hands-on experience drafting and prosecuting biotech/pharma patent applications

  • An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, or other relevant fields

  • Experience with IP management and IP renewal platforms

  • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic and international laws, regulations and processes relating to patents

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to communicate IP concepts and strategies to all levels of management and team

  • Ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, and with external partners and vendors
